RF Radiation Hazards

The location of tower structures in residential areas is very frequently an emotional issue with nearby residents. Dispassionate safety assessments must be carefully prepared. Any arcane technology which involves an invasive infrastructure will generate perceptions of public nuisance which are frequently quite out of proportion to reality.

Yet it is in precisely these residential areas where many radio towers must be constructed in order to be cost effective, and to provide the public with the best possible service. It is not spurious to argue that, for instance, the REAL safety hazard of a new cellular or PCS tower would be NOT to locate it where someone dialing an emergency 911 call could complete it successfully.

Evans Associates has extensive experience in preparing exhibits acceptable to the FCC, the EPA, the FAA, and local zoning boards, demonstrating compliance with U.S. and International Radio Frequency Radiation standards.

Below is a sample of actual measured contours taken within two miles of a broadcast antenna farm which is in a residential area, and which is home to TV and FM stations radiating a combined power of nearly ten million watts. The measurements show that there is no location accessible to the public where the radio frequency field exceeds 50% of the established allowable maximum. Contact Ben Evans for more information.
